Since there are no validated assays in the analytical format used by BioWatch laboratories for the biological threat agents of concern, use of the CDC LRN and DoD DBPAO assays are the only means to meet mission requirements. The DoD DBPAO assays were optimized and validated with the use of ThermoFisher Life Technologies’ (formerly lnvitrogen's) Platinum™ Taq DNA Polymerase enzyme kits.
Specialized Instruments essential for formulation development include equipment for formulation preparation, analytical assay, and stability studies. Moreover, the newly established formulation laboratory will be responsible for producing small-scale engineering batches of the studied drugs.
