The man-packable ES capability must be sufficient to outfit three independent teams to passively identify and locate MAGTF communication assets across a wide spectrum of tactical communications.

The Marine Corps Systems Command (MCSC), Quantico, VA currently has a requirement to obtain 169 man-packable, multiband (X, Ku, and Ka) Super High Frequency (SHF) satellite terminals, also known as Marine Corps Wideband Satellite Communications – Expeditionary (MCWS-X) terminals, along with initial issue provisioning kits, and spare parts.  

The size, weight, and power consumption of the system will be optimized for a system transit footprint of two cases (or less) that are each man-portable and fit in a commercial aircraft cabin overhead storage bin. The ultimate objective would be for a system that is man-packable in a single backpack. MSAT should support information throughputs of 8 Mbps or less.3.
