Battelle, Pacific Northwest National Laboratory anticipates deploying 2 each – AXYS WindSentinel buoys off the coast of California from Humboldt Bay and Morro Bay. Each deep-water deployment will encompass commissioning/pre-deployment activities, deployment operations, maintenance activities, recovery and post-deployment activities and general deployment support over the deployment period of approximately 1 year.
Extension of this contract will allow the Coast Guard to continue the agency's critical mission of maintaining aids to navigation buoys to guide mariners on the rivers of the Midwest. Coast Guard river buoys are made from welded sheet steel and filled with foam for extra buoyancy.
