The HHE program has determined that cumulative risk assessment (CRA) principles should be applied to our exposure assessment work to better our product, our responses to HHE requestors, and to further take CRA principles from theory to application. CRA is an advanced risk assessment approach that has been used in environmental and ecological contexts to evaluate the combined risk from co-exposures to chemical and/or non-chemical stressors.
In addition, this PWS entails work associated with cumulative risk assessment, including human and non-human biota, and chemical mixtures risk assessment, and supporting the advancement of the science in community-based risk assessment.
The proposed changes include the following: (1) Amend 18 AAC 75.325 to update the department’s Procedures for Calculating Cumulative Risk and adopt it by reference, add new language clarifying the requirements for obtaining approval to dispose of soil or groundwater from a site subject to the site cleanup rules.(2) Amend 18 AAC 75.340 to update the department’s Procedures for Calculating Cleanup Levels and Risk Assessment Procedures Manual
risk of adverse, cumulative impacts from climate change, and EPA faces even greater challenges in terms of trust and our ability to connect with these audiences.
Unfortunately, many of these least trusting groups also tend to be the most vulnerable to environmental and public health hazards, including the cumulative risks associated with climate change. Connected to the idea that there may be a potential lack of trust in risk information that that is received, many of the most at-risk individuals are unlikely to seek out risk information from EPA or any Federal Agency.
