Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) is issuing this request for information (RFI) announcement as part of a market survey for Environmental Services for the Environmental Laboratory.The requirements are listed below:The contractor shall perform research, development and evaluation tasks for the Army and DoD civil and military missions.

The Contractor must demonstrate successful fusion of synthetic biology research and the design of electronically controlled bioenabled materials for the US Government; must demonstrate experience using synthetic biology approaches involving microorganisms; must demonstrate publication success in synthetic biology, bioenabled materials, and microorganisms; and must have PhD in Synthetic Biology or other related field.

Contractor shall work on an NREL Laboratory Directed Research and Development (LDRD) project, to conduct metabolic engineering and synthetic biology for the production of renewable chemicals from biomass-derived sugars. Contractor shall work with bioprocess engineers for scale-up activities in bioreactor cultivations to improve strain performance in an iterative fashion.

Army Engineer Research and Development Center’s (ERDC) Environmental Laboratory (EL) are to conduct research using synthetic biology involving microorganisms, the ability to work with and modify DNA and proteins, and generate bioenabled materials. The automated bioreactor will be used to automate cell culture and microbial fermentation.
