MCA Discharge Facilities Seismic and Reliability Upgrade Project Description :The services are to complete a reliability-based analysis of the gate systems at the Mica Discharge Facilities. The process will be carried out within a probabilistic risk analysis framework that will consist of hazard and failure mode identification.

Seismic analysis and retrofitting upgrades, to include seismic bracing on installed equipment and augmenting bracing and connections, are included to ensure structural durability of the facility. Seismic upgrades to achieve Partial Life Safety Structural Performance Level S-3 and Non-Structural Performance Level N-A Operational, at a minimum. Facility will receive a lightning protection system adequate for F-22 operations.

In addition,facilities identified as critical and essential must meet additional requirements to remain in operation after a seismic event. Ancillary VA facilities must be life-safety protected.
Application of requirements as documented in VA Directive 7512 (included as Attachment 1 of Scope of Work), Seismic Design Handbook H-18-8, and ASCE 41 are to be utilized as a reference in addition to all applicable building codes specific to seismic zone the Medical Center resides in, in determining if existing conditions are seismically deficient.
