The Kirkersville Feeder Canal was originally constructed as a water supply to the Ohio & Erie Canal and in 1839 the feeder was constructed to introduce water from the South Fork Licking River to increase water supply to the lake. While the feeder no longer connects to the South Fork Licking River, it still serves as a vital water supply to Buckeye Lake.
