TSMRI employs a heat pump system to heat the facility, and to provide conditioned water, both heated and cooled, for the marine habitate laboratory. The heat pump system employs two Tranter flat plate heat exchangers. The flat plate heat exchangers have titanium plates compressed between two steel end plates. On one end, nozzles are installed which direct saltwater and a treated ethylene glycol/water mixture through the plates.
