The Department of Veterans Affairs, San Francisco VA Medical Center, Molecular Core Facility intends to negotiate on a sole source basis with the Becton, Dickinson, and Company, BD Biosciences, pursuant to FAR 6.302-1; for the procurement of FACS Aria Fusion flow cytometer equipment. This equipment must be compatible with the BD Aria that the San Francisco VA already has on site.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention intends to award a sole source firm fixed price purchase order to Becton, Dickson, & Company for Cell Sorter-FACSAria Fusion. The Cell Sorter-FACSAria Fusion refrigerator is a flow cytometer and sorter used for particle analysis and accurate isolation and sorting of microbiological samples (including pathogens) used in method validation, sensitivity studies, etc.

BD Biosciences Inc shall provide: The BD FACSAria Fusion (656700-23) is an 11-color flow cytometer and cell sorter with 4 solid-state lasers in an enclosed system, that is further enclosed within a Class II Type A2 Biosafety Cabinet, therefore another firm would not be familiar with the rationale of the design; not be able to accurately address request for Information (RFI s); or accurately maintain this equipment, which is critical for proper patient
To accommodate the ability to do detailed immunophenotyping (including on rare populations), and to sort those cells, the lab requires a BD FACSAria Fusion SORP cell sorter flow cytometer that consist of a 4-lasers, 18-colors and 20 parameters, which will be integrated with a Class II Type A2 BSC. This flow cytometer will be in addition to the BD cell sorters including the FACSAria Fusion SORP already located in our Flow Cytometry Section.
