BACKGROUND: The Regional Jails provide health care and behavioral health care services (medical, dental, mental health, and substance use disorder treatment) for approximately 5,445 (Appendix B). The Regional Jails provide care through various means, including by not limited to staff providers, contracts with third party providers, and the public sector providers (e.g. community services boards, state mental health facilities, etc.).
