IntroductionThe National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), National Institutes of Health (NIH), of the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) supports research related to the basic understanding of microbiology and immunology leading to the development of vaccines, therapeutics, and medical diagnostics for the prevention, treatment, and diagnosis of infectious and immune-mediated diseases.
of infectious and immune-mediated diseases.
, and medical diagnostics for the prevention, treatment, and diagnosis of infectious and immune-mediated diseases.
Project BackgroundThe National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) is the nation’s premier medical research institute within the National Institutes of Health (NIH) focused on leading basic, preclinical, and clinical research to inform the development and testing of new and improved vaccines, therapeutics, and diagnostics to treat, and prevent infectious and immune-mediated diseases.
In order to achieve the NIAID’s goals of facilitating research and improving methods for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of infectious and immune mediated diseases; and to assist in the dissemination of research results, NIAID requires diverse administrative and logistical support.
The NIAID Division of Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (DMID) supports a comprehensive extramural research program focused on the prevention and control of diseases caused by virtually all infectious agents (with the exception of the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV)).
