The National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS), National Observer Program (NOP) requires that all observer safety trainers successfully complete a United States Coast Guard (USCG) approved Marine Safety Instructor Training (MSIT) course prior to conducting safety training. Certified trainers are also required to complete a 3-day refresher course every 3 years.
The provider will be given at a minimum 2 (two) months’ notice before a safety instructor training class is to be scheduled. Scheduling may vary and is dependent on observer program needs. The contractor will coordinate with the NOAA Fisheries, to ensure all logistics for training are met, e.g. use of pool, vessels, and other facilities as needed.
