(applicant) applied for a permit to the Alaska Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Division of Mining, Land, and Water, (DMLW) requesting authorization for the placement of mooring buoys and associated anchors for a ship to load logs on to near Wadleigh Island, more specifically near Klawock Inlet near Klawock, Alaska.
LEGAL DESCRIPTION: CRM, Township 56 South, Range 63 East, Section 23 REQUESTED ACTIVITY: On December 14th, 2023, Gary Poulos (applicant) applied for a Land Use Permit to the Alaska Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Division of Mining, Land, and Water (DMLW), requesting authorization for the construction and placement of a private dock, along with the placement of two mooring buoys on State-owned submerged and tidelands.
Land and Water (DMLW) for a land use permit for the placement of twenty-four (24) seasonal 40’x40’ net pen arrays and one (1) 40’x80’ support barge.
.• Identification of Ecological Resources Reliant on River Sediment: Identify ecological resources that are dependent on a functioning (sustained) river sediment budget and the associated restrictions that affect present dredging and sand mining and dredged material placement practices and identify opportunities to modify and/or optimize dredging and dredged material placement to improve ecological functions in river reaches/sub-reaches.• Development
Due to the widespread wetlands and the need for surface mining (underground mining was determined to not be feasible), the project includes fill placement in wetlands. b. Minimization: The positions of the proposed roads, laydown areas and other infrastructure are oriented to minimize direct impacts to aquatic resources.
