The contractor will need to identify possible dairy farms in the lower mainland of British Columbia to recover potential Trueperella pyogenes isolates. The contractor will obtain permission from the producer to submit nasal swab samples from the suspected cattle to the Animal Health Centre for analysis. In the last 5 years, the bacterium Trueperella pyogenes has been isolated by the Animal Health Centre from ruminant production animal cases in a consistently increasing trend. This project will focus on collecting isolates of T. pyogenes from small and large ruminant animals. These isolates will be evaluated for antimicrobial resistance, screened for resistance genes, and then sequenced for their whole genomes. All of this data will inform the broader perspective on animal health issues related to this bacterium. Contract duration The estimated contract period will be 15 month(s).
