The country has a generalized HIV epidemic with viral transmission occurring primarily through heterosexual contact. The National HIV prevalence for adults is estimated at 13.3%. In 2015 UNAIDS estimated that there was about 210,000 people living with HIV and AIDS in Namibia.
Simultaneously, PEPFAR is committed to intensive management of implementing partners, with improved onsite monitoring, more frequent analysis of program data, and in-depth regular engagements with partners to discuss implementation progress and facilitate sharing of best practices.To reach national HIV treatment targets, PEPFAR will support the National HIV Program to test for HIV using modalities that have been most successful at finding HIV-positive
The HIPP program in conjunction with the National HIV Strategy is a program designed to ensure that all persons between the ages of 13-64 are routinely tested for HIV, has access to condoms, if HIV positive, are linked or returned to care and if qualified, will be submitted for Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) referral.
