Project activities would occur within the unmapped floodplain of the Takotna River. 

The proposed project would: • Excavate the roadway embankment • Remove existing culverts • Install new culverts • Backfill the roadway Floodplains The proposed project may encroach into unmapped base (100 year) floodplains at unnamed creeks within the project area.

The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) has assumed the responsibilities of the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) under 23 U.S.C.327 and is soliciting comments on proposed floodplain encroachments associated with the extension of Mountain Air Drive from Rabbit Creek Road to Sandpiper Drive.

Work would be limited to the approaches, decks, and piers of bridges located within the Kenai Peninsula Borough.This project would involve erosion control work on the Kasilof River Bridge (Bridge No. 0670) - where the Sterling Hwy crosses the Kasilof River – that will include a floodplain encroachment in Floodplain Zone AE, per FEMA Flood Insurance Rate Map (FIRM) 02122C0860E.

Work would be limited to the approaches, decks, and piers of bridges located within Palmer, Wasilla, and Girdwood.This project would involve erosion control work on the Glacier Creek Pedestrian Bridge (Bridge No. 6033) - where the Alyeska Hwy crosses Glacier Creek – that will include a floodplain encroachment in Floodplain Zone AE and a mapped floodway, per FEMA Flood Insurance Rate Map (FIRM) 0200051559D.
