The FI workforce consists of approximately 350 interviewers recruited and employed throughout the United States and spread across approximately 200 primary sampling units. The MEPS-HC interviews are conducted primarily face-to-face in the respondents’ households using Computer Assisted Personal Interviewing (CAPI).

The survey in its current design examines a nationally representative sample of about 10,000 persons over a two-year period from 30 randomly selected primary sampling units (PSUs) across the country. In this design, the PSUs are counties or groups of adjacent counties. Data are collected in household interviews and in federally owned mobile examination centers (MECs).

The interviewer workforce would consist of approximately 350 interviewers employed throughout the United States (approximately 200 primary sampling units to be provided to the contractor once appropriate security measures are in place). The survey itself is conducted through the use of a computer assisted personal interview (CAPI).
