PROTOTYPE PROJECTPURPOSEThis Request for Solutions (RFS) is issued to seek a prototype subminiature Radio Frequency (RF) signal processing payload subsystem for integration into a maritime system of expendable unmanned systems.
Prototype payload concepts shall incorporate advanced component technologies as well as threat mitigation components and techniques to reduce Block-I payload development time, assembly and integration risk, mature component technology/ manufacturing readiness levels (TRL/MRL), and inform future Missile Warning and Missile Defense (MW/MD) architecture and Concept of Operations (CONOPs).
Prototype Infrared Payload (Base and Option)
In Option 1, the contractor shall develop and prototype a second-generation hull incorporating lessons learned from the previous work and asses the technology maturity. In Option 2, the contractor shall investigate novel failure modes of the hulls and internal components. In Option 3, the contractor shall develop and prototype an alternative payload deployment system.
The prototype EO/IR sensors may operate on-board free-flyer satellites or as hosted payloads including operating on the International Space Station (ISS). The prototype demonstration should clearly demonstrate an EO/IR sensor that is scalable to the proposed future operational architecture concept in term of design, performance and manufacturability.
The objective of EPIC was to build a prototype satlet-bus that demonstrates rapid payload reconfigurability. The scope also included integration of a payload todemonstrate the satlet/User Defined Adapter (UDA) interface contributions.
