This facility is an historic 40-acre railroad switching yard that operated between 1909 and 1987. The facility includes an abandoned railroad switching yard, a larger diameter well beneath a collapsed well house, a fuel oil tower, a historical fuel oil pit, a ditch that runs the length of the facility, miscellaneous solid waste, and a multi-use trail.

The new section extends the existing shared use path from the old Progress Place site near Ripley Street, along the WMATA/CSXT railroad corridor, around the Silver Spring B&O Railroad Station, which is a historic property, across a new pedestrian bridge over US 29 (Georgia Avenue), along the west side of Selim Road to a new tunnel under Burlington Avenue to King Street, where it will connect to the already-constructed segment of the trail.
