Construction includes but is not limited to the following: Tenant Improvement of the entire 9th floor to accommodate the Public Defender and the Senior Judges new offices. The facility serves the Southern District of Georgia and houses a senior U.S. District Judge, a U.S. Magistrate Judge, one visiting District Judge, and a visiting Magistrate Judge, judicial support staff, a U.S. Probation Office, and the U.S. Marshals service. The U.S. Courthouse is a three-story (plus basement) federally owned building and has approximately 28,300 usable square feet.
The facility serves the Eastern District of Mississippi and houses a senior U.S. District Judge, a U.S. Magistrate Judge, two visiting District judges, and a visiting Bankruptcy judge, judicial support staff, a U.S. Probation Office, US Attorney Office, and the U.S. Marshals service. The Colmer Courthouse was constructed in 1974 and is three-stories plus basement and has approximately 60,000 usable square feet.
The project reflects senior district and magistrate judge sharing policies, does not include courtrooms for projected new judgeships, and has no exceptions to the U.S. Courts Design Guide. The project will also support the needs of the United States Attorneys and the United States Marshals Services and court support services.GSA will first construct the new annex and once complete, the Ashley Courthouse will be vacated during the renovation.
