Permitted septage land application sites represent less than 2% of the total volume of septage managed in Vermont and as of this Request for Proposal, there are only two permitted locations for septage land application. The future of land application in Vermont is uncertain, primarily due per- and polyfluorinated compounds (PFAS) in septage transferring to the environment in soil and groundwater.
\n\nThe service is needed to conduct a comprehensive study of current and long-term landfill capacity,\nquantities of sludge and septage generated and economic analysis on the impact to Maine communities\nfrom implementation of LD 1911; evaluate currently available management technologies for PFAS-impacted\nmaterials; and determine alternatives and recommendations for short and long-term biosolids management\nfor various sized wastewater treatment
