JUSTIFICATION AND APPROVAL FOR SOLE SOURCE AWARD FOR EXHIBIT LIGHTING AND EXHIBIT TRACK IN HISTORIC MASONRY MUSEUM BUILDINGS AuthorityThe Smithsonian requires support of its in-house exhibit lighting efforts and intends to sole source contracts for lighting and track equipment for a series of exhibit specific installations valued at $4.8M in 2020, $2.3M in 2021, and $1.4M in 2022.
The scope of work is to design the exhibits to 65% completion, completion of graphics to 100%, and Construction Administration. A Fabricator under a separate contract to will take the design from 65% to 100% fabrication/shop drawings documents, fabrication, and installation of the new exhibits.
The then Director of NASM made a decision to allocate the space for a gallery of exhibits, and Pulseworks essentially lost that capital and any potential revenue they would have received. As a result of that decision, both Pulseworks and Smithsonian Enterprises, in good faith, agreed to find new and better opportunities for simulators/virtual reality within the Smithsonian. The exhibit at NZP is a result of that good faith effort.

The Smithsonian has a requirement for an Exhibit Fabricator for the installation of exhibits in a newly renovated space within the National Museum of American History located at Constitution Avenue and 14th Street, SW in Washington, DC ("NAMAH"). Current renovations to the second floor West Wing ("2W") in NMAH will house upcoming American political and social history exhibitions.
