The goal of this project is to remove the existing concrete bridge superstructure and replace it with new. The existing concrete superstructure is deteriorated, has been damaged by flooding, and can no longer safely carry current traffic loads. The existing substructure (abutments and wingwalls) will be retained and reused. The project includes related site work, excavation and paving.
Activities will include site monitoring by a contractor supplied Environmental Monitor, removing and replacing the bridge decking/superstructure, repairing and installing new abutments/substructure, hauling and installing rip rap, and rebuilding approaches.
Only the superstructure is to be removed. The abutment substructures are to remain in-place. The damaged superstructure is to be disconnected from the substructure by removal of the anchor bolt nuts or cutting the anchor bolts as required. The superstructure will then be helicoptered out in one piece to a designated heliport.2) Disposal of the existing trail bridge superstructure.

Work will include work on approaches (roadway, embankments, drainage features), channels, substructures (abutments, piers, etc.), superstructures (girders, diaphragms, end walls, bearing devices, etc.), decks (slab, curbs, etc.), wearing surfaces (running planks, etc.), and traffic safety features (bridge railings, approach railings, signing, etc.).
