The Washington State Department of Transportation maintains a traffic monitoring program to meet internal needs and federal reporting requirements. This includes temporary traffic counts at approximately 1,000 mainline state highway and 800 ramp stations per year. Due to staffing shortages and other constraints, the Department has in recent years failed to perform enough data collection to remain compliant with federal guidelines.

Work may include, but is not limited to the following: Analyze implementation of traffic control devicesConduct traffic counts, accident data gathering and analysisPerform safety analysis of roadways/intersection/crosswalks/etc. for vehicles, pedestrians, and bicyclistsReview and recommend traffic calming measuresReview and recommend traffic congestion relief measures or lane reconfigurationsPrepare signing and striping plans including any necessary

The traffic count on Colquhoun Rd is less than 200 vehicles per day. The last bridge inspection (2023) noted that the structure was in “fair” condition and will be due for replacement in 2026. The Municipality of South Dundas is looking for an engineering firm to complete an engineering evaluation to assess a range of replacement alternatives and recommend the ultimate solution that should be implemented.
Specific tasks may include the following: - Components of highway safety investigations - Field investigations and sign surveys - Automatic Traffic Counts - Turning Movement Investigations - Pedestrian, School Crossing, and/or Bicycle Counts/Investigations - Vehicle Delay Study - Speed Study - Capacity Analysis - Work Zone Safety Initiatives - Miscellaneous Studies - Presentations - Report Preparation - Prepare for and Attend Meetings - Perform Planning
