    In the 1980s the bridge decking was removed and replaced with wooden decking to create a pedestrian footbridge.  Over the years, the bridge sustained continuous damage from water and debris as river levels fluctuated due to storms and seasonal flooding and in 2009 was classified as structurally unsafe.  Ultimately, the entire structure was removed due to the high cost of repairs.
