Exceedances of arsenic in near-surface soils of the established background concentrations ranged from 10 to 190 mg/kg. In eight surface soil samples and three near-surface soil samples, arsenic concentrations exceeded the established background concentration of 9 mg/kg in soils. Lead concentrations in 17 surface soil samples and 17 near-surface soil samples exceeded the DTSC SL of 80 mg/kg for lead in soils.
The project will build upon the work performed by the Preliminary Planning team, as well as other work completed to date on the Ohio River Tunnel (ORT) and ART-Near Surface Package 6 (ART-NSF6), to advance the ART and associated drop shafts, regulators, outfalls, and consolidation sewers to a final design.

A new system is necessary to continue research into near surface soil behavior, along with the study of sensors and their relationship with the top 1 meter of soils. The unique Triaxial laboratory equipment and associated software has been utilized on multiple research and development projects by the GSL Sensor Coupling and Soil Behavior Laboratory for the last six (6) years.
