The Community Foundation for the Greater Capital Regionin Albany, New York, aims to strengthen the community through philanthropy.The foundation invites applications for the Bender Scientific Fund, which was established to support and promote discovery and development in medicine, science, and technology in the capital region. Grants may be made to fund research in medicine, biotechnology, and life sciences; and educational and information-sciences projects related to medicine, biotechnology, and life sciences. Grants of up to $12,500 will be awarded. The fund is especially interested in explorations of early research and in educational projects that promote continuing discovery and learning.To be eligible, applicants must be tax-exempt as defined by section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code or operate under the fiscal sponsorship of a qualifying nonprofit organization, and serve residents and be located within the 10-county capital region of New York State, which includes the counties of Albany, Columbia, Fulton, Greene, Montgomery, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Schenectady, Schoharie, and Washington.For complete program guidelines and application instructions, see the Community Foundation for the Greater Capital Region
