The DEPARTMENT anticipates that the work load for the NDT group will exceed the capacity of current DEPARTMENT employees. Project Scope:The Nevada DEPARTMENT of Transportation (DEPARTMENT) Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) Staff works under the supervision of the Assistant Chief Structures Engineer, Inventory/Inspection. The DEPARTMENT NDT staff consists of one

supervisor and one inspector. The NDT staff is tasked with Quality Assurance (QA) inspections for steel girder and pre-cast pre-tensioned girder fabrication at varying fabrication plants within the state of Nevada, as well as in other states. The staff provides field construction support for steel and concrete girder erections, monitoring post tensioning operations, communications between DEPARTMENT Structures Design Staff and DEPARTMENT Construction crews relating to girder fabrication and girder erections, and performs any duties as required by DEPARTMENT construction contracts or by request of the design or Resident Engineer. The NDT staff also performs NDT Services on existing structures in support of Nevada Bridge Inspection Program and Bridge rehabilitation projects. This includes performing maintenance repairs on existing bridges (e.g., grinding and/or drilling of fatigue cracks).
