Park and Recreation DirectorGrafton, WisconsinThe Village of Grafton (pop. 11,700) is five square miles, with a mix of residential, manufacturing, retail and recreational uses located about 20-miles north of downtown Milwaukee along Interstate 43. The Village’s population has been steadily growing in the last several decades.  Our attractive suburban community has 17 developed parks encompassing about 120 maintained acres, a municipal aquatic center, a Senior Center, and a 3-hole golf course.  A new 10-acre park is under construction that will serve the southeast portion of the Village.  The Ozaukee County Inter-Urban Trail travels through the heart of our community as well.  The Village is a full-service municipality, and prides itself on providing excellent customer service as well as a strong sense of community.  The Park and Recreation Director leads and ensures implementation of a wide range of Recreation programming for youth and adults.  The Director also plays an integral role
in various public/private partnerships that facilitate Village events such as the annual Christmas Parade, Independence Day festivities, and many other Village events.  The department has four (4) staff members along with up to 60 seasonal employees providing the new Director with staffing and organizational opportunities.  The Director coordinates park and facilities maintenance with the Village’s Department of Public Works and manages an operational budget of approximately $1.15 million as well as a capital improvement budget. The successful candidate will:Be adept at combining a hands-on management style with strong leadership, an ability to work with a variety of stakeholders and to generate, maintain and improve upon longstanding public/private partnerships; Be strategic thinking and an exceptional communicator; Be able to thoughtfully represent the interests of the Department and the Village, with a high level of community engagement; and Candidates should also have an equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities, as outlined below:Five (5) years of service in the parks and recreation field, including three (3) years of supervisory and/or administrative experience. Bachelor’s degree in Park and Recreation Management or related field is preferred.  A combination of equivalent experience and training will be considered. The starting salary will be dependent upon qualifications.  The position is in pay grade 17 of the Village’s salary structure which ranges from $63,564 - $85,965.  The Village offers a competitive benefit package. Candidates should apply by October 6, 2021 with the following; A) application form, B) resume, C) cover letter and D) contact information for five work-related references to the attention of Jesse Thyes, Village Administrator, 860 Badger Circle, Grafton, WI 53024 or hr@village.grafton.wi.us. The Village is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
