Wisconsin’s Graduate Medical Education Initiative was launched in 2013 by the Department of Health Services (DHS) to increase the number of physicians practicing in rural areas of the state. One strategy for achieving this broad goal is expanding residency positions in existing graduate medical education (GME) programs.
