The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) has assumed the responsibilities of the Federal Highway Administration under 23 U.S.C. 327 and is soliciting comments and information on a proposal to rehabilitate Fireweed Lane from Spenard Road to the Seward Highway to improve safety and bring the roadway and non-motorized facilities up to current design standards. The project team will analyze and design alternative roadway configurations to rehabilitate Fireweed Lane to improve motorized and active transportation needs as well as business circulation and access along the corridor. Additional work may include: Resurfacing the roadway Intersection improvements Replacement, installation, or improvements to: Medians, curb ramps, sidewalks, and pedestrian facilities (including ADA improvements) Signals and lighting Signs, roadside hardware, and striping Structural section repairs Drainage improvements including storm drains, ditches, and culverts Utility adjustments
or relocations as needed Vegetation clearing, grubbing, and landscaping Geotechnical investigations This proposed project will comply with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act; Executive Orders: 11990 (Wetlands Protection), 11988 (Floodplain Protection), 12898 (Environmental Justice), the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, Fish and Wildlife Coordination Act, and U.S. DOT Act Section 4(f). Construction for the proposed project is anticipated to begin in summer 2030.
