Request for Qualifications Rolesville Mural Project Applications Due Friday, February 3, 2023 at 4:00 pm Rolesville Town Hall 502 Southtown Circle P.O. Box 250 Rolesville, North Carolina 919-556-3506 www.rolesville.nc.gov http://www.rolesville.nc.gov/ Project Individual artists or teams of artists are invited to submit qualifications to be considered for participation in the design and installation of a series of murals in and around the Main Street areas of Rolesville, North Carolina. This project is being initiated by the Town in partnership with the United Arts Council of Raleigh & Wake County through United Arts’ Wake Murals Program. href="https://unitedarts.org/programs/municipal-murals/" target="_blank">https://unitedarts.org/programs/municipal-murals/ The goals of this mural project are: • To activate and enhance the cultural connectivity and economic vitality in downtown Rolesville through engaging artwork and creative placemaking. • To honor the town’s history and natural beauty and build upon its brand identity of a Genuine Community with a Capital Connection. • To create a mural that is colorful and inspiring for residents and visitors. • To create a mural that reflects the unique characteristics and assets of Rolesville. Potential Sites A committee of Rolesville residents has been assembled to oversee the project. The committee is in favor of installing multiple small-scale murals displaying a general theme throughout town. Possible mural sites include the Rolesville Town Hall and the Main Street Park driveway, among other sites along Main Street and/or other major thoroughfares. A final list of locations has yet to be determined; the committee is currently open to recommendations for additional locations. Selected Artist(s) will be involved in the process of finalizing the list of mural locations. Selected Artist(s) will be expected to work with the Mural Committee and mural location property owners to determine final install sites, designs, and timelines. Mural Budget The current total budget for this project is $15,000, inclusive of labor, design work, and supplies. • $5,000 will be paid to the Artist(s) upon contract completion, prior to start of work. • The remaining balance will be paid to the Artist(s) upon completion of all murals. • $15,000 artist fee is inclusive of all labor, design work, and supplies costs. • The Town of Rolesville will cover any additional costs, such as lifts or scaffolding rentals, if required. To Apply Please submit a single PDF file which includes: 1. A short bio for each lead artist, and if a team, a statement about the collective. 2. A short statement on your connection to Wake County, Rolesville, and/or the greater Triangle Region. You do not need to pitch a design, just share your intentions and/or thoughts about your contribution to this project. 3. An image list of 4-7 past projects/relevant work samples, including Title, Date, Location, Dimensions, Year, and additional information on total budget or project details when applicable. 4. A resume or CV with relevant prior work experience, max 2 pages. 5. Three references with e-mail and telephone contact information. All application materials may be submitted via email to Mical McFarland at mical.mcfarland@rolesville.nc.gov either as one zipped/compressed folder or a link to Google Drive, Dropbox, or similar file sharing platform. Please include your full name and “Rolesville Mural RFQ” in the subject line. Qualifications must be submitted by Friday, February 3, 2023, 4:00 pm. No submissions will be accepted after this time. Do not submit a project proposal or design at this time. Evaluation Criteria and Review Process The committee will review all submissions and select finalists. Submissions received will be evaluated based on the following criteria: • The artist’s experience and performance on similar types of projects • The artist’s ability to complete the project in a timely manner • Completeness and quality of the application • Reference checks. Finalists will be notified via email and invited to interview with the committee.
