The county seat is Americus. Sumter County was established by an act of the state legislature on December 26, 1831. The county was named for former General and United States Senator Thomas Sumter (1734–1832) of South Carolina. Sumter remains largely a rural county. According to USDA/Georgia Agricultural Statistics Service 2001 figures, cotton remains its major crop, with up to 35,000 acres (140 km2) under cultivation, followed by wheat, peanuts, and corn, which when combined, roughly equal the county's acreage in cotton.Overview: Qualifications are requested from professional grant writers/consultants. Our goal is to identify a grant writer who would be engaged
on a project basis to assist Sumter County in pursuing grants and other funding opportunities primarily from state and federal agencies. Qualified grant writers/consultants may be considered for one or more upcoming projects at the discretion of the Sumter County Board of Commissioners. Requirements: The Grant Writer/ Consultant will serve as a subcontractor to Sumter County and help shape initial concepts, produce, review, revise and prepare draft and final proposals, for submittal to government agencies for the county. The Grant Writer/Consultant will meet proposal deadlines by establishing priorities and target dates for information gathering from other contributors. The Grant Writer/Consultant will work closely with the Sumter County Board of Commissioners and management staff to submit funding proposals within grant guidelines and deadlines. Qualified grant writers/consultants will have a demonstrated record of successful grant applications. Candidates must have excellent organizational and time management skills and the ability to work independently. Candidates must demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills and have previous experience engaging effectively with senior managers, researchers and program level staff during the proposal design, development, and review phases. Candidates should demonstrate solid analytical and advanced writing and comprehension skills. Qualifications: At least 1-3 years of grant writing experience in a government setting.A proven track record in grant writing with success in securing funding targets. Significant familiarity with the federal and state grant funding process.Exceptional writing skills with the ability to concisely translate technical findings and complex concepts into plain, easily understood language.Strong organizational skills and the ability to meet deadlines. Submittal Instructions: Interested Grant Writers/Consultants are requested to submit a Statement of Qualifications including the following:Maximum two-page proposal including summary of qualifications, relevant experience, results of previous government grant applications, and range of award amounts. Resumes or CVs of key personnel.Writing sample from a government grant application that was awarded.Date of first availability and length of availability.Three professional references with details on grants written and awarded.Rate Sheet/Cost Proposal explaining all anticipated costs for completing a grant submission.
