ANNOUNCEMENT OF EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY YOUTH SERVICES LIBRARIAN Part-Time/Temporary Position Up to 19 hours per week - $16.00 per hour Flexible schedule required - Must be available for evening/weekend work. Deadline to Apply: 11/14/22 Qualifications: B achelor Degree required or Master of Library Science Degree from an ALA accredited library school preferred. Experience in a library setting and experience with children preferred. Tasks: Provides professional front-line reference, computer and reader's advisory assistance to youth, parents, caregivers and teachers; assists with and presents children's programs and school visits; performs library tasks for which procedures are well established and under the supervision of the Lead Librarian Youth Services. This individual may be cross-trained to provide reference, reader's advisory and computer assistance as needed for all patrons at the Ask a Librarian Desk on the main level.
Knowledge, Skills, and Other Characteristics: Knowledge of library services, systems and procedures. Ability to establish relationships with the public and provide effective customer service in a professional manner. Knowledge of sources and materials in both print and electronic format and searching methods and procedures. Familiarity with literature for youth, from infants to teens. Ability to use computers, computer networks and online resources. Experience helping novice computer users utilize common applications. Experience assisting users with mobile devices. Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with other employees. Ability to work with minimal supervision. Ability to work enthusiastically with children and families. Strong service orientation and excellent verbal and written communication skills. Physical and Visual Ability: Sufficient to effectively and safely perform required duties and to safely operate required equipment and city vehicle as needed. Must be able to perform physically demanding duties including pushing full book carts, book bins and lifting tubs weighing up to 50 lbs. Must be able to perform duties involving repetitive bending, reaching, stretching and standing for long periods of time. Hearing and Speaking Ability: Sufficient to clearly, concisely and effectively communicate in person and over the telephone.
