Demolish existing abandoned bulk fuel storage tanks, day tank, Tank S-1, associated piping, pumps, filters and valve pits already taken out of service, and Bldg. 108 and vault. Perform soil sampling (bore hole) and contamination test along the abandoned fuel transfer pipes, day tanks area and aircraft direct fueling stations.1.3.1.2.1 Demolitiona. Demolish abandoned-in-place bulk fuel storage tanks and associatedpumps, filtration, and equipment located in fuel farm. See Contractdrawings in Appendix B1 for more details.b. Demolish abandoned-in-place day tanks and associated pumps,filtration, and equipment located near aprons. See Contract drawingsin Appendix B1 for more details.c. Demolish tank S-1 and the containment curb on top of it. Removingthe underground anchor slab on which the tank is installed is notrequired. Detach the inlet pipe coming from Building 90 lab, flush,blind with flange and abandon in place in accordance with applicablestandards, rules and regulations. Detach and
demolish the pipe toFill stand. Detach and demolish vent pipe and any other pipe connectedto the tank. See Contract drawings in Appendix B1 for more details.d. Demolish Building 108 and the vault underneath, in addition tocables and all other items inside.e. Demolish valve pits indicated on the Contract drawings (AppendixB1). Cut all valve pits inlet and outlet piping at 1 foot from outersurface of the valve pits. Residual fuel may exist inside the pipes,therefore, flame-cutting is not allowed and heat generation must becontrolled during cutting. Blind the end of abandoned-in-place pipeswith flange.Remove from Government property and properly dispose of any contaminatedsoil that is generated from disturbing the soil.1.3.1.2.2 ConstructionBackfill and compact the cavities created because of demolition. Grade tomatch the surrounding area in accordance with the directions provided onthe Contract drawings.1.3.1.2.3 Soil Sampling and Contamination TestPerform soil sampling (bore hole) and contamination test along theabandoned fuel transfer pipes in 50 feet intervals and in accordance withCUPA requirements. See "SOIL SAMPLING AND CONTAMINATION TEST DRAWINGS" onAppendix B1 for detailed information. Provide GIS coordination of boreholes on pertinent drawings and a Microsoft Excell file. Remove from theGovernment property and properly dispose of any contaminated soil that isgenerated from soil sampling. Backfill the bore holes with uncontaminatedsoil.
