Weenusk First Nation Design and CA for Cultural Area Project Description :The main objectives are to complete the design, tendering and contract administration of the rehabilitation of the existing powwow ground Weenusk First Nation. The existing Cultural Area consists of wood structure with a tarpaulin. The fire pits and picnic tables are exposed to weather. The area also has exposed wires which poses risk to the community. The wood supports are built of tamarack wood and are in frequent need of replacement and maintenance. The new powwow ground will include an arbour with lighting, bleachers protected from the elements which would seat approximately 100 people, a gate and MC Hut, audio/visual equipment, a sacred fire location, approximately ten picnic tables, and a washroom / change room facility for the First Nation. Work will include landscaping. The work will include a memorial for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls. The memorial will be made by an indigenous artist (Consultant will solicit proposals from Indigenous artists for the memorial). Due to funder restrictions, work must be completed by March, 2024. This requires construction to occur in summer, 2023, and material to be shipped up on the March / April 2023 winter road. This tight timeline requires a construction management approach coordinated by the Consultant so that material can be properly ordered and shipped up on the winter
