ANNOUNCEMENT OF EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY Senior Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Public Works Department Hiring Pay Range: $24.84 to $31.05 per hour plus benefits (New employees start at the beginning of pay range) Pay Grade: 111 FLSA Status: Non-Exempt (eligible for over time) Full Pay Range: $24.84 to $37.26 Deadline to Apply: 03/20/2023 Position Summary: Public Works is seeking an experienced, knowledgeable, and professional Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator to operate and maintain one wastewater treatment facility, and to mentor less experienced operators. Under direct supervision of the Wastewater Superintendent, coordinates a variety of programs and activities, including work assignments, safety training, data entry, leading projects, and coworkers, ordering materials, reporting issues to supervisors, taking charge in the absence of Supervision - while working closely with others within the Division. The Senior Plant Operator is a working position with a lead role excluding
personnel actions, e.g., performance conversations, approving leave requests, and taking disciplinary action Distinguishing Characteristics: The ideal candidate will possess good leadership skills, supervisory/management potential and technical skills to provide direction and guidance for the Operations staff in the spirit of teamwork and collaboration. This position is mainly field work with limited administrative duties to assist administration, respond to emergency situations, and lead staff Essential Duties: Lead operators to safely operate and maintain wastewater treatment plants, ensure compliance with permits; regulate process controls; and maintain plant efficiency Assuming the duties of the Supervisor during absences; performing plant operations and administrative duties of both positions when required; collecting samples; performing analysis on wastewater samples for process monitoring and reportable analysis; monitoring the operation of the plant, adjusting plant valves, flows, and return rates; adjusting chemical dosages as needed; running various analytical tests; calibrating and maintaining lab and equipment; operating the sludge press and conventional areas of the plant; entering data from lab analysis; and conducting laboratory testing Other responsibilities include assisting with training and mentoring less experienced operators; working within budget guidelines; performing general and preventative plant maintenance; ensuring discharged water is good quality; ordering supplies and chemicals for treatment; properly maintaining buildings and grounds; assisting with maintenance and repair of electrical and mechanical equipment; Any other duties as assigned Qualifications: Education and/or Experience: A High School Diploma or Equivalent; Grade III Arizona Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Certification or must obtain within one (1) year; and three (3) years experience as a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator; have excellent troubleshooting skills, be able to think "outside the box" to resolve problems, build interpersonal relationships, and promote a positive work environment Employee Core Beliefs: City of Prescott employees should seek to uphold the City's core beliefs throughout their day-to-day business and with every customer they come in contact with, both internal and external.
