The Veterans Health Administration’s (VHA) National Gastroenterology and Hepatology Program Office requires three-year service agreements for the 115 Medtronic GI Genius machines located throughout the continental United States (CONUS) that have been acquired. This requirement includes priority on-site service support, preventative maintenance, and repair to maintain the equipment at peak operating conditions. The sole source's circumstance is due to the critical pieces of equipment that must be maintained and repaired to meet all Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) specifications. The OEM does not guarantee parts installed by a 3rd party manufacturer or ensure the system's performance if any 3rd party manufacturer parts are installed. Additionally, if any 3rd party equipment is to be installed, it voids any existing warranty and could compromise the system's total performance. If the system does not operate as intended, results could be detrimental to the safety of those which the system is designed to protect.
