BackgroundLocated in the heart of the Hampton Roads region of Virginia, the City of Newport News is a vibrant waterfront community with a diverse and unique range of experiences for residents and visitors. In 2022, the City launched a new brand – Newport News: Built on Breakthroughs. We are now bringing this brand to life in the community, state, and nation through creative marketing and communications initiatives. Earlier in 2022, the City launched a new Tourism brand, “Visit Newport News.” We are in the midst of a robust marketing campaign to encourage all to rediscover and enjoy breakthrough experiences in the city. Tactics include advertising, social media engagement, group outreach and engagement, a branded experience platform, and more.A key priority in 2023 is to redesign and launch a new Tourism website. The Tourism Division’s existing website, www.newport-news.org launched over seven years ago. It is currently hosted and maintained through a contracted vendor. Tourism staff is able to make minor changes and updates to the website, but significant changes must go through the vendor. The City's goal is to create a user-friendly, visually engaging site that is easy for Tourism staff to update and maintain.1.3.
