However, the terms identified in ITB-005-23/JR have a validity period from the award\ndate to July 31, 2024. The district issued a competitive solicitation,\ncoordinated by DCPS Purchasing Services (ITB-005-23/JR). Through the ITB process,\nfourteen companies were identified as vendors to provide temporary nursing services.\n\nGap Analysis\n\nTemporary nursing services are required to provide medical services when DCPS medical\nstaff are not available due to vacancies, illness, planned leave, or when newiy identified\nstudents with medically complex health conditions register at schools until permanent services\ncan be arranged. Without an agreement, the district will not be able to provide the nursing\nservices students require when district nurses are not available. The district currently has 44\nschool-based nurses serving medically fragile students. In addition, students routinely enter\nthe district throughout the school year who require medical services or current students\nbecome newily diagnosed with diabetes or other medical conditions requiring direct nursing\nservices. In compliance with Florida Statutes 1002.29, families of students with diabetes can\nelect to transfer their child to a school with existing health care services or remain at their\ncurrent school with medical support. The temporary nursing contract allows the district to\nprovide immediate health care support to students and to provide coverage for district medical\nstaff who are absent or needed for field trips away from the school campus.\n"
