Public Higher Education Bulletin University of Illinois at Chicago Exemption #345IDM Announcement of an Exempt Purchase Award Info Published Tuesday July 3, 2018Awarded to:Vendor: Boston Scientific, Marlborough, MA Amount: An estimated $3,500,000 Terms:An estimated start date of 7/1/2018 through 6/30/2023 Renewals: None The University award process may be delayed up to thirty days as this award goes through a state approval process. First published Tuesday, July 3, 2018 The University awarded a contract for supplies for electrophysiology procedures. Implants and supplies are for electrophysiology (EP) procedures that is a test performed to assess your heart's electrical system or activity and is used to diagnose abnormal heartbeats or arrhythmia. The test is performed by inserting catheters and then wire electrodes that measure electrical activity, through blood vessels that enter the heart. This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because
the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical services necessary for the delivery of care and treatment at medical, dental, or veterinary teaching facilities utilized by SIU or U of I (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) Boston Scientific?s implants and supplies have to do with direct patient care. Without access to these specific supplies the hospital would not be able to offer surgical procedures and care, which in turn would drive patients elsewhere and result in a loss in revenue to the hospital.
