Corporation CounselPortage County, WIPortage County is seeking a full time Corporation Counselto join the team!Summary of Position:The Corporation Counsel serves as legal advisor to Portage County, providing sound and efficient legal services for all County Departments, the Portage County Board of Supervisors, the Portage County Executive, and other Portage County boards, commissions, committees and officers thereof in accordance with Wis. Stat. Sec. 59.42(2). This position drafts and reviews legal documents, represents Portage County in court and administrative proceedings, and directs the operations and personnel of the Corporation Counsel office.Performs as a collaborative member of Portage County’s management team, participating in department and County leadership and management functions under the direction of the County Executive. What are the essential job duties?Serves as legal advisor to all departments, officials, oversight committees, boards, and commissions of Portage
County government.Attends Portage County Board meetings, committee meetings, hearings, etc.Represents Portage County in all civil matters through Circuit Court, Court of Appeals, and Administrative Proceedings in which the County is a party or has an interest, unless pre-empted by contract or Wisconsin Statutes. Performs as a collaborative member of Portage County’s management team participating in department and County leadership and management functions.What are the minimum requirements?Juris Doctorate degree from an American Bar Association accredited law schoolFive years of legal experience in general municipal, state, federal, and common law; and of constitutional law affecting County government in Wisconsin or equivalent. Trial experience in municipal law and juvenile law including termination of parental rights.Experience in personnel management, supervision, budgeting, public relations/customer service, and team work.
