SCOPE:Contract to provide Courier Services for the Wisconsin State Lab of Hygiene Newborn Screening Specimens. Wisconsin's Newborn Screening (NBS) Laboratorywithin the Wisconsin State Laboratory of Hygiene (WSLH) is a statewide program that tests over 66,000 babies each year for a panel of congenital disorders. Many of these disorders can lead to both mental and physical disabilities, and possibly even death of the newborn, if testing, identification, and treatment are not initiated within a precise window of time. Any delay can lead to devastating outcomes. Therefore, the timely transport of newborn screening specimens from the hospitals/clinics/midwifery locations to the WSLH is critically important.Specimens collected on a given day must be transported within 24 hours to the WSLH; delays in transport are unacceptable. Accountability, tracking, and quality assurance are essential to ensure that every specimen is delivered to the WSLH; missing or lost specimens are unacceptable.
