The ARPA PFAS Sampling in Wastewater Discharges project will support data driven decisions to invest federal funds to address the discharge of emerging contaminants into the environment. The discharges of PFAS into wastewater and the resulting transport of PFAS to the environment through Publicly Owned Treatment Works, (hereinafter POTWs) will be sampled through a new project from the State of Vermont with the dedication of American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding for a two-phased project. First, the contractor will quantify PFAS in municipal wastewater effluent across the state and, second, focus resources on identifying and reducing or eliminating PFAS sources in select communities. The State seeks a contractor to coordinate and deliver the quarterly sample collection at each of Vermont’s 94 POTWs and analysis for PFAS utilizing current analytical methods. This first phase of the project is expected to occur over one year. Phase one of this project will focus on quantifying PFAS in POTW influent, effluent, and septage hauled to and disposed at POTWs. The second phase will involve collaboration with State and municipal officials to plan and conduct targeted collection system sampling for PFAS analysis for determination of mass loading to
