Central Hall Hazardous Materials Survey and Testing

Central Hall is an academic building with two floors of classrooms and offices over a full basement. Central Hall is the current home to the SOU School of Business, the Mathematics Department, and contains general campus classrooms, faculty offices and computer labs. The building was constructed in 1950 as the campus library and a general classroom building. It served those functions until 1967 when a new library was built nearby. In 1967, Central Hall was renovated primarily into new classrooms and faculty offices. The 1967 remodel included construction of many new interior partitions and major renovations of the mechanical and electrical systems. Central Hall is constructed with cast-in-place concrete exterior walls, floors and interior bearing walls. Interior partitions are wood framed with plaster and gypsum finishes. The attic space above the second floor contains HVAC equipment. The building footprint has not changed since the original construction with the exception of an exterior elevator, which was added in 1981. Central Hall contains approximately 42,000 gross square feet of interior space plus a 13,000 square foot attic that houses mechanical equipment. SOU has limited prior asbestos data available for Central Hall from testing performed from 1990-2007. The prior test data is appended as Attachment
