REQUEST FOR INFORMATION (RFI)
Mill Creek Ambursen Dam Interior Sediment Removal
1.0 PurposeThe purpose of this Request for Information (RFI) is to obtain information and industry comments in anticipation of a future competitive solicitation for the Mill Creek Interior Ambursen Dam Sediment Removal project.
2.0 IntroductionThe U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), is seeking innovative solutions from interested sources in an effort to develop an appropriate statement of work for a new contract supporting the removal of silt deposits from the interior of the ambursen dam located on the Mill Creek Project in Walla Walla, WA.
3.0 Program Description
Approximately 350 cubic yards of silt has accumulated within the ambursen dam structure located in Walla Walla, WA and needs to be removed from the structure. The structure consists of 12 compartments separated by 11 intermediate piers and two end walls. It is a non-permitted confined space
which will require confined space training, if entered. There is a 3'X4' vertical access shaft opening from elevation 1270 to 1247 at each end wall of both sides of the 250' long spillway. The access is via a permanently installed metal ladder attached to the sides of the vertical shafts. The access on the right side has a 14 foot long horizontal lateral gallery running upstream at the bottom of the vertical shaft to the spillway compartments entry. There is also a 3'X4' opening in each one of the 11 spillway piers. A site has been identified for disposal of the material
Preliminary ideas for removal include either dry or wet vacuum removal of the silt
