South East Sector Transportation System 19 Street – Gaetz Avenue to Irwin Avenue Project Description :This project consists of four major components. The first component of the work includes the reconstruction of 19 Street. The asphalt along 19 Street is in poor condition and the City of Red Deer will be reconstructing 19 Street between Gaetz Avenue and Irwin Avenue. The new pavement structure is deeper than the existing pavement structure and the existing curb and gutter will mostly remain in place, with all pinned on curb being replaced with curb and gutter. The construction will be in close proximity to two wetland areas, where a subdrain will be installed along the bottom of the excavation to convey groundwater to the storm sewer system. The second component of the work includes reconstructing the intersection of 19 Street with 40 Avenue as a multi-lane roundabout. The roundabout will have a concrete pavement surface. The ancillary work at the intersection includes salvaging the existing traffic signals, relocation of existing streetlights and the installation of new streetlights, the burial of an overhead power line, the installation of Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons (RRFB), storm sewer relocation, and subdrains. The third component of the work is the construction of an asphalt multi-use trail along the north side of 19 Street from Piper Creek to 40 Avenue. The fourth and provisional component of the work is the construction of a right in/right out access from 40 Avenue to the Living Stones Church. The work will include the construction of a right in/right out access, a northbound left turn bay, saw cutting and removal of a portion of the existing asphalt access road, construction of a new sound attenuation berm, and landscaping along the
