LIMS System/Database AnalystMilwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District$30.79 - $36.20EXCELLENT benefits package!Link to applyThe Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District (District) is a regional government agency that provides water reclamation and flood management services for about 1.1 million people in 28 communities in the greater Milwaukee area. The District's mission protects public health and the environment through world-class, cost-effective water resource management, leadership, and partnership. The District is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) Database Analyst in the Water Quality Protection Division. The LIMS System Database Analyst will support the management of laboratory documentation and data using LIMS and other laboratory databases, in accordance with District policies and procedures. This position works with a diverse set of internal and external customers and provides them superior service while meeting
their laboratory data needs. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Act as administrator for software used by laboratory to generate analytical data and to access and store electronic records.Serve as resource to laboratory staff on SharePoint, Hach WIMS, and OnBase.Serve as back-up to LIMS administrator for basic program functions.Maintain technical competency and remain current in technology and changes in information systems.Provide training to laboratory staff on LIMS, Hach WIMS, and Control Chart generation programs.Create and issue reports of analytical and fiscal data requested by management and internal and external customers.Prepare monthly bill for analytical services provided to Veolia.Compile and upload monthly electronic Discharge Monitoring Report (DMR) for submittal to Department of Natural Resources (DNR).Produce weekly reports detailing completed and outstanding sample analyses.Prepare additional regulatory and non-regulatory data reports as needed.Coordinate and complete internal and external requests for laboratory documents.Facilitate integration of electronic information systems used in the laboratory.Evaluate continued functionality of LIMS and maintain an inventory of desired enhancements.Ensure compatibility of analytical equipment purchased by the laboratory with LIMS, critical operating systems, District software and hardware specifications, and their respective upgrades.Support connectivity of all analytical instruments with LIMS and with one-another.Incorporate or convert laboratory records, documents, and notebooks containing analytical data into electronic format.Lead or collaborate on the implementation of laboratory-wide data automation programs such as measurement traceability and cradle to grave tracking of samples.Collaborate with Field Monitoring, Industrial Waste Program, and Water Quality staff to support their databases containing laboratory results.Manage the storage of electronic data generated and used by the laboratory.Ensure integrity of analytical data archived electronically in District repositories.Perform periodic backup of data and software associated with analytical instruments.Test periodically the ability of archive and back-up systems to provide requested data and records on demand.Assist in developing and maintaining plans to restore crucial laboratory data in the event of a critical information system failure.Document operation, functionality, and constitution of electronic information systems used by laboratory.Document LIMS architecture, changes and upgrades to system, and user guides.Maintain inventory of electronic information equipment in use at the laboratory.Recommend replacements and purchases to support or enhance operations.Develop and maintain databases associated with Quality Assurance functions.Collaborate with Quality Assurance Specialist to support databases of quality control analysis results.Create and support a database capable of visually charting on demand results of quality analyses by multiple variables.Complete special projects as assigned. Marginal Job Duties: May be required to allocate work, provide technical assistance and train personnel in information services functions. Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in job-related major including coursework in statistics, Microsoft Access and Excel, database design, and administrationTwo years of job-related experience in data management, database administration or other IT support relating to environmental or other laboratory data; or an equivalent combination of education and experienceWorking knowledge of current industry technology standards and databases, including MS SQL, mySQL, VBA, VBScript, XML, and HTMLAbility to prepare and perform data queries and to tabulate the extracted data into user defined formatsWorking knowledge of laboratory quality assurance, data processes, and LIMSAbility to operate a variety of standard business machines, such as a computer and related software, calculator, FAX, photocopier, and scannerComputer software proficiency in Microsoft Access and ExcelSupplemental Information: Work environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee works in an office and laboratory environment and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or chemicals, outside weather conditions, and risk of electrical shock, the noise level in the work environment is a combination of moderate and loud.
