Project Description:“HealthChoices” refers to the behavioral healthcare benefit program administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services (“DHS”) Office of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services (“OMHSAS”). It began in 1997 (Montgomery County), and offered counties the opportunity to decide locally how certain behavioral health care benefits within the Pennsylvania Medicaid program would be managed. These healthcare benefits had previously been managed by the Pennsylvania DHS Office of Medical Assistance Programs. BH-MCO to perform all or selected functions related to management of a capitated behavioral health medical budget. Physical Health MCOs manage the physical health Medicaid benefits (including pharmacy) via contract with the State.
