ANNOUNCEMENT OF EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY Code Compliance Inspector Community Development Department Hiring Pay Range: $23.43 to $29.29 Pay Grade: 110 FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Full Pay Range: $23.43 to $35.15 Deadline to Apply: Open Until Filled Position Summary: Performs field inspections and investigations of complaints and violations in the enforcement of various ordinances. Distinguishing Characteristics: This position has no supervisory responsibilities. Under general direction, this position is expected to exercise some independent judgment within parameters in the disposition of daily activities. Essential Duties: Responds to and investigates complaints alleging violation of municipal code pertaining to land use regulations, garage sales, signs, etc.; investigates complaints of weeded lots, utility easements, abandoned/junk vehicles, and abandoned buildings; and documents investigations with written reports, logs, and video/photographic records Issues notices of violations;
testifies in court; mediates and resolves conflicts/disputes among neighbors, businesses and residents Conducts field checks; monitors businesses and properties relative to a variety of mitigation measures imposed as part of the discretionary land/use process Prepares correspondence and reports, abatement notices, and requests for information Maintains thorough records and documentation C oordinates and works with public groups and organizations to conduct public education programs and neighborhood clean-ups Manages the use of the news bins and ensures compliance to relevant City policies Inspects vacation rentals as part of the registration process Interacts with the public; responds to calls and emails Performs other duties as assigned Qualifications: Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or equivalent; three (3) years of experience in plan review, code compliance, municipal experience, building or fire inspection, law enforcement, construction trade, or closely related field; or any equivalent combination of education, work experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the essential functions of the position will be considered. Licensing, Certification, and Other Requirements: Possess a valid Arizona driver's licenses; possess certification as Level I Code Enforcement Officer through the Code Enforcement League of Arizona or ability to obtain within one (1) year of hire Employee Core Beliefs City of Prescott employees should seek to uphold the City's core beliefs throughout their day-to-day business and with every customer they come in contact with, both internal and external. Knowledge, Skill and Abilities: Knowledge of federal, state, and City of Prescott rules, regulations, policies, procedures, codes, and ordinances related to zoning, building codes, and compliance Knowledge of the City of Prescott's governmental organization, policies, and procedures Knowledge of construction methods and materials Knowledge of occupational safety and health regulations, policies, and procedures. Knowledge of a variety of computer software, including word processing, database, spreadsheet, and GIS applications Skill in applying customer service/public relations techniques, Skill in communicating in writing for administrative and technical purposes Skill in communicating orally for both individual and group situations Skill in utilizing public relations techniques in responding to inquiries and complaints Ability to perform inspections and respond to inquiries Ability to mediate/resolve disputes Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with state/federal/local officials, elected officials, and City residents Physical Demands And Working Conditions: Work is performed both in the office and out in the field Safely and effectively performs required duties and safely operates required equipment and City vehicle as needed Works occasional weekends Clearly, concisely, and effectively communicates both in person and over the telephone Tasks require the ability to exert moderate physical effort including, but not limited to, lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling, etc. of objects and materials of moderate weight (50 pounds or less) Work is performed in an environment with heavy equipment and machinery that could result in bodily harm to self or others Successful candidate will receive a post-offer, pre-employment background screening to include: Drug screening Motor vehicle records check Criminal background screening City of Prescott Contact Information 201 N.
